The New York Times reporter in Jakarta, Nori Onishi, interviewed Dr Mukhlis Abu Bakar for his opinion on the madrasah education system in Singapore. Her report entitled, "In Singapore, a More Progressive Islamic Education," appeared in the NYT on 23 April 2009.

Dr Sa'eda Buang presents her paper on “Madrasah Schools and the Challenges to Implementing Creative and Responsive Teaching Approaches & Methodologies” at the International Conference on Islamic Education and its Challenges, at Sohag University, Cairo, Egypt, on 24-26 April 2009.

SingTeach, NIE's e-magazine for teachers, highlights Mr Mohd Aidil Subhan's research that advocates the ingenious use of everyday experiences and the importance of spontaneity in the teaching of Malay language.
Dr Razif Bahari's article on the Novel in Southeast Asia has appeared in Blackwell's The Encyclopedia of the Novel (2009). The encyclo-pedia is an advanced desktop reference source on the novel as a literary genre, and focuses on its history, terminology, and concepts essential to studying the genre. Dr Razif's article is the only one from Singapore, among contributions from scholars from the US, Europe and Australia.
