Background
Dr. Paitoon M. Chaiyanara is an Associate Professor in the Department of Malay Language and Culture, Asian Languages and Cultures Academic Group, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University.
Before he went over to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Brunei Darussalam as a lecturer, as well as a foundation developer of the department of Malay Language and Linguistics (1986-1994), Paitoon was a Language Research Officer in Institute of Language and Literature, Ministry of Culture and Arts, Malaysia (1983). He was also an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prince of Songkla University, Thailand in 1984 and a lecturer in the School of Humanities, University of Science Malaysia in 1985.
Research and Teaching
Paitoon's research interests include Comparative Linguistics of Austronesian and Austroasiatic languages, Phonetics & Phonology, and Language Education.
Publications
His recent books (in Malay language) are: The Variation of Phonological Theory(2007), An Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology (2006), Generative Phonology for Postgraduates: Theory and Exercise (2005), and An Introduction to Case and Lexicase Grammatical Theories (2004).
