Background
Dr Sanat Md Nasir is a senior fellow at the MLC, National Institute of Education. Previously, he was a lecturer and subsequently, an associate professor at the Department of Malay Language, the Academy of Malay Studies, the University of Malaya, Malaysia until his retirement.
He was the first head of the Malay language department at the University of Malaya, a position which he held for five years. His Ph.D was obtained from the same university.
Research and Teaching
Sanat's research interests cover various aspects of Malay language, including discourse grammar, linguistic politeness, semiotics and rhetoric. At the NIE he teaches ethics and decorum, reading and writing Jawi, the origin and development of Malay language, contrastive linguistics, error analysis and discourse analysis.
